CHANGE.ORG PETITION: Uphold human rights for intersex people
i’m breaking my absence on tumblr to share something important with you. my boyfriend is friends with someone on google+ who needs your help gaining signatures on a petition, and i know tumblr is just the place for that.
Maya Posch has been fighting for recognition as intersex in the Netherlands for nearly seven years. She has encountered hostility and apathy from doctors, psychologists and politicians who have ignored her, or worse. Her story is described at www.mayaposch.com She is currently seeking refuge outside the Netherlands where she’ll be safe.
The human rights of intersex people worldwide are often ignored because they don’t fit into standard social and medical models. Although at least one in every thousand people is born intersex, many countries do not acknowledge their existence. It is common for intersex children to be operated on when they are too young to consent, just to change the way they look. This can cause lasting health problems. In adult life, intersex people often find medical support unavailable and keep their circumstances secret out of fear that their lives will be ruined by others’ prejudice.
We ask that the United Nations take action to ensure that the human rights of intersex people are upheld and that they are shown the same support and respect as anyone else. Intersex people must be protected from discrimination and from unwanted surgery. Provision must be made for them to receive medical support where needed without insurance penalties.

i took a break from tumblr awhile back when i felt like i was being too easily upset and stressed out by drama and whatever other content i was seeing on my dashboard. since then, i’ve just felt better whenever i’m not on tumblr. i was pissed off all the time and it wasn’t conductive for creating things and it was just more stress than it was worth.
i’ve only really been on tumblr lately to see what my internet friends are up to or just out of habit, cause it seems like i’m out of the loop if i’m not on tumblr. but whenever i do check tumblr, i just don’t like it.
maybe i’ll come back later, maybe i won’t. but right now i am happier without tumblr, and whatever i can do to improve my mental health is higher priority than this site.
I’m quitting tumblr.

Police 'killed deaf cyclist with stun gun after he failed to obey instructions to stop'
“A police officer killed an elderly, deaf and mentally disabled man riding his bicycle by shooting him with a Taser stun gun after he failed to obey instructions to stop.
Roger Anthony, 61, was killed as he made his way home in Scotland Neck, South Carolina, after officers responded to a 911 call about a man who had fallen off his bicycle in a car park.
The caller told dispatchers that the man appeared drunk and that it looked like he had hurt himself.
Officers said they repeatedly told Mr Anthony to get off his bike, but when he didn’t respond, they shocked him.
The state Office of the Medical Examiner hasn’t yet determined a cause of death.
Family members claim Mr Anthony had hearing problems and suffered from seizures. Now they’re considering whether to file a lawsuit against the town.
His brother Michael said: ‘What did they tase him for? It’s hurting me. It’s really hurting me.’”
I don’t understand white people when they say they can’t tell Asians apart, but I know I have a problem with differentiating white men from each other whenever I watch TV.
